Here are some recent "privates" conversations with my children...you know how open we are about body parts and labels...
With Benjamin after exiting the restroom at 100 mph,
M: Benjamin, did you wash your hands?
B: No, Mom, I don't have to...I'm a man, I don't even touch my penis. I just hang it right over the toilet and go, then I shake a little to get the drips off. I keep my hands on my hips so they don't get dirty.
M [In shock, holding back a smile, needing to say something]: Well, surely you lifted the toilet seat and that has germs on it, too. So, please go wash.
B: No, I left it down and just dripped a little pee on it.
With Leah driving around the "Musica" sculpture in the center of a roundabout (rotary, traffic circle--depending on where in the country you are reading this) in Nashville, TN--click link before reading conersation--
L: Mom, was those people real and long time ago?
M: No, honey, they are just sculptures or statues made to look like people.
L {after dramatic pause}: Why they not paint swimsuits on them. That very in'ppropriate. They 'possed to cover them 'ginas and penis.
M: Yes, Leah, I agree.
{moments like these are what life is all about}

Thankful Thursday
I am thankful that I have this amazing opportunity to homeschool my children and watch them grow everyday. I am thankful that I have listened to my homeschool friends who have convinced me to take my own advice and be more structured. I am thankful that other people have enough faith in me and trust me with their own children's development and education. I am thankful that we live in an amazing country that allows me these luxuries and is just out my front door step waiting to be explored. I am thankful for a new year that brings new adventures and challenges and that I have the health, desire, means, drive, support, and faith to approach those adventures and challenges...and prevail.
Benjamin is thankful for: "friends, because they play with me."
Leah is thankful for: her stuffed "kitty, cuz she's special."

Happy New Year!!!
We hope everyone brought in the new year with joy, good health and peace. We enjoyed a fairly quiet evening at home (after a brief visit with friends) and enjoyed our last day with Daddy at home. We have had such a great week together: lots of family time, down time, quiet time, silly time, outdoor time, girl-y time, manly time, MOMMMY time!... Everything a week off should be! Santa brought us the Wii (rumor has it he was nearly mugged for it outside of Toys R Us two days before Christmas) and we are having a ball. It's such a great family video game system. And, although it doesn't replace getting out and exercising, at least we're able to get up and move on those cold Tennessee days. Highly recommended if you're looking for a system.
We are still working on our Christmas cards (I know, shame on me) and have two packages left to mail (again, shame on me). But know that I have enjoyed my holidays in spite of failing my family and friends.
I have reorganized our classroom, our schedule and our curriculum for the up-and-coming semester and am looking forward to meeting some new goals and watching the children blossom. We still hope to get on the road a bit once the weather gets warmer and we 're actually planning a road trip with our homeschool friends to culminate some thematic units. We're looking forward to a great year!
