This visit was particularly special for me. Several months ago, I contacted my grandmother's children, and a few others and asked them to create a page for a scrapbook to honor my grandmother (Memere as her grandchildren called her), as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and a woman. It was amazing to see some of the old photos that her family presented, most of which I had never seen. I also realized that I had very few photos of my grandmother in her recent, beautiful years. And in a conversation with Benjamin after he questioned why her face was "wrinkly," I realized how many memories, experiences, and years of happiness she has shared with so many people. Those "wrinkles" as a sign of how much of herself she has given to so many of us. I just love this photo: it reminds me of day I gave her the scrapbook that chronicled a bit of Memere's life, although I know it just touched the surface of her memories. I think she had tears of joy that afternoon as she was able to remember some remarkable times in her long life.
